Médecins Sans Frontières/Doctors Without Borders (MSF) is an international, independent, medical humanitarian organisation that delivers emergency aid to people affected by conflict, epidemics, disasters or exclusion from healthcare.  MSF Operational Centre Paris (OCP) consists of four partner sections (Paris, New York, Tokyo and Sydney) as well as an office in Dubai. MSF OCP carries out operations according to a common strategic and medico-operational plan. The Sydney Medical Unit is part of the MSF OCP Medical Department and is responsible for medical support of operations in the field of Women’s and Child Health. 

 

Responsibilities  

Reporting to the Deputy Medical Director OCP as part of the Nursing team and Medical Department of OCP, the role will contribute to the implementation of MSF’s social mission through providing medical / nursing leadership, expertise and advocacy in the field of nursing and nursing care to support OCP operations and projects.   

With a focus on the improvement of quality, you will work collaboratively to provide support to MSF project teams relating to nursing and nursing care. Accountabilities include: 

  • Contribution to medico-operational strategies. 
  • Providing relevant, context-adapted nursing support. 
  • Leading and supporting quality improvement and instilling respect for medical ethics in our operations. 
  • Collaboration with the Nursing Intersectional Platform with other working groups as required.  
  • Developing and supporting operational research and relevant innovation in nursing. 
  • Internal and external advocacy, based on project needs. 
  • Liaison with MSF and the external nursing community.  

 

Requirements  

  • Nursing degree/diploma  
  • Experience researching and writing evidence-based documents, creating/delivering trainings using mixed methodologies 
  • Minimum 5 years of clinical nursing experience, including significant experience in neonates/paediatrics (minimum 2 years acute care) and at least 1 of the specialty areas below: 

- Intensive care units (invasive and non-invasive ventilation) 

- Emergency Department  

- Experience in orthopaedic, trauma or visceral surgery. 

  • Field experience with international NGOs / MSF (minimum 18 months of field experience and/or 3 missions)  
  • Experience in coordination and/or headquarters is an asset. 
  • Asset: EMONO, CPAP, HFNO 
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills with good English B2 and fluent French C1. 
  • Willingness and capacity to work outside standard office hours when required, and travel for several weeks at a time to the project sites globally (1-2 trips)

Conditions 

  • The successful candidate will ideally be based in one of the OCP section offices but can work remotely with regular visits to the office (ideally this would be Paris, but Sydney, Nairobi or another office may be considered).  
  • Potential contract extension beyond December 2025 
  • Contract parameters will be defined according to HR legislation for the contracting office (conditions and remuneration to be confirmed at the time of interview/ offer according to location preference of the successful candidates).
