MSF Operational Centre Paris (OCP) consists of four partner sections (Paris, New York, Tokyo and Sydney) as well as an office in Dubai. MSF OCP carries out operations according to a common strategic and medico-operational plan. The Sydney Medical Unit is part of the MSF OCP Medical Department and is responsible for medical support of operations in the field of Women’s and Child Health.

Responsibilities 

Reporting to the Head of the Medical Unit (Sydney), as part of the Sydney Medical Unit and Medical Department of OCP, this 3 year full time contract will contribute to the strategic, technical and research-oriented leadership of Women’s Health ensuring that operational priorities, quality of care and evidence generation are closely aligned.  

You will support MSF Australia’s strategic, communication and advocacy efforts related to Women’s Health, with a focus on networking, research and collaboration across the Asia–Pacific region. Further accountabilities include:

Field and Operational Support (Women’s Health)

  • Provide technical and operational support to OCP projects on women’s health and sexual violence, in close collaboration with medical-operational managers (Cells) and medical coordinators.

Innovation and Practice Improvement

  • Contribute to the development of innovative and context-appropriate approaches in midwifery and women’s health, including sexual violence (SV).

Women’s Health Technical Dossier and Capacity Building

  • Ensure technical leadership and coherence of the women’s health dossier across OCP and MSF Australia.

Transversal Collaboration and Network Development

  • Contribute to strengthened collaboration across the medical department and the wider MSF movement.

 

Requirements 

 

Essential Criteria

  • Qualification: Degree in Midwifery and Master in Public Health (or equivalent), currently registered with a recognized midwifery board or professional regulatory body. OR : Medical degree with specialization in Obstetrics and Gynecology (or equivalent), currently registered with a recognized medical council or professional regulatory body.
  • Field experience: Significant experience in MSF projects, including clinical midwife, strong SV experience and maternity manager roles (minimum three MSF assignments).
  • Technical expertise: Strong and up-to-date technical competence in midwifery.
  • Research & evidence use: Ability to identify field-based knowledge gaps, contribute to operational research, analyse data, and apply research findings to inform policy, guidelines and operational strategies.
  • Languages: Excellent written and oral communication skills in English and French.
  • Operational and analytical skills:
    • Strong organisational skills, with the ability to plan, anticipate and prioritise.
    • Sound problem-solving skills with a solution-oriented approach.
    • Ability to analyse medical data and contribute to scientific analysis and reporting.
  • Leadership and collaboration:
  • Ability to work autonomously, take initiative and exercise sound judgement.
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills, with the ability to influence and build consensus.
  • Proven ability to work effectively within multidisciplinary and multicultural teams.
  • Professional attitude: Flexibility, resilience and a constructive, proactive attitude.
  • Availability:
    • Willingness and ability to travel internationally regularly (1-2 trips)
    • Willingness and ability to work flexibly, including regular evening hours to support collaboration across multiple time zones (Europe, Africa and the Middle East).

Desirable Criteria

  • Instructor certificate.
  • Experience in coordination, management and/or project management roles.
  • Experience  implementing strategies, operational research projects and training programs.
  • Teaching or pedagogical experience in midwifery or women’s health.
  • Proficiency in additional languages relevant to MSF operations.
  • Knowledge of digital health an asset.

  • The successful candidate will ideally be based in Sydney, Australia.  
  • Potential contract extension 
  • Contract parameters will be defined according to HR legislation for the contracting office (conditions and remuneration to be confirmed at the time of interview/ offer according to location preference of the successful candidates).
