Médecins Sans Frontières/Doctors Without Borders (MSF) is an international, independent, medical humanitarian organisation that delivers emergency aid to people affected by conflict, epidemics, disasters or exclusion from healthcare. MSF Operational Centre Paris (OCP) consists of four partner sections (Paris, New York, Tokyo and Sydney) as well as an office in Dubai. MSF OCP carries out operations according to a common strategic and medico-operational plan. The Sydney Medical Unit is part of the MSF OCP Medical Department and is responsible for medical support of operations in the field of Women’s and Child Health.
Responsibilities
Reporting to the Head of the Medical Unit (Sydney), and joining the Medical Department of OCP, this part time contract will provide medical leadership, expertise and advocacy in the field of Paediatrics and Neonatal care to support OCP operations and projects.
With a focus on the improvement of quality of care for children and neonates, you will work collaboratively within your team of Paediatricians, Women’s Health experts and other medical specialists to provide support to paediatric activities for MSF OCP.
Accountabilities include:
- Providing relevant, context-adapted medical support
- Assuring quality improvement and respect for medical ethics in our operations.
- Contribution to medico-operational strategies
- Developing and supporting research activities and relevant medical innovation.
- Advocating internally and externally, to improve quality of care and ensure a patient-centred approach.
- Providing linkage to MSF and the external medical community.
Requirements
ESSENTIAL CRITERIA:
- Medical doctor with degree or board certification in paediatrics
- Practical experience with MSF
- Excellent written and oral communication skills in English and working proficiency in French (or willingness to improve)
- Strong organisational and planning skills
- Willingness and capacity to work outside standard office hours when required, and travel for several weeks at a time to the project sites and MSF offices (eg Paris/ Sydney)
DESIRABLE ATTRIBUTES
- Experience in coordination or leadership (eg medical team leader, project manager) or at headquarters level.
- Qualifications in Public Health, International Health or Tropical Medicine
- Experience in quality assurance activities including protocol development or audits
- Research experience, including knowledge of clinical trials or operational research is an asset

Conditions
- The successful candidate will ideally be based in Sydney or Paris though other regional offices for MSF OCP will be considered.
- 0.5FTE (part time, 2.5 days per week) parental leave 6 month contract (potential to extend for a further 2 months)
- Contract parameters will be defined according to HR legislation for the contracting office (conditions and remuneration to be confirmed at the time of offer according to working rights of the successful candidate).
